Fang Reliquary Head (Byeri) — A Legacy of Ancestral Guardianship

Rooted in the ancestral traditions of the Fang peoples of Central Africa, particularly Gabon and Cameroon, Byeri reliquary heads were carved in wood to guard containers holding the sacred remains of honored ancestors. These sculptures expressed the enduring connection between the living and past generations—embodying protection, memory, and spiritual continuity. Their powerful sculptural presence and profound cultural meaning offer lasting appeal to collectors of African art.
